Princess Diana exhibit set to open at Branson Exhibition Center on July 1
|
The legend of Lady Diana is coming to Branson -- on what would have been the royal celebrity's 49th birthday.
An exhibit of memorabilia of the former Princess of Wales, who died in a 1997 car crash, will be the first display presented in the Branson Exhibition Center, a new venue at the former location of the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum.
The exhibit, most recently displayed at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., will open July 1 at the center on Green Mountain Drive at Missouri 376.
The space is being leased by Exhibition Dynamix, a new company formed by president and COO Tony Doblin.
"We think we have a great opportunity to bring a museum-quality display to Branson," Doblin said.
He said the exhibit takes about 90 minutes to view and includes several of Diana's dresses and other memorabilia, along with information about her philanthropic endeavors, her marriage to Prince Charles, her children and her tragic death.
It will also include a short film about how the display came to be. The building will also have a retail space and a cafe, Doblin said.
A formal announcement of the display will be made Tuesday, Doblin said.
He said he thinks this is a perfect display for the area.
"We think this will resonate in Branson and Midwest," Doblin said.
"Whether Lady Diana was talking to a millionaire or a leper, she always treated everyone the same," he said.
"This is a family display," he added. "We want to see mothers with daughters who want to grow up to be a princess."
Doblin said the display includes 13 of Diana's dresses that were purchased by entrepreneur Maureen Dunkel from Christie's auction house.
Spokesperson Pam Critchfield said the exhibit will probably be on display for about two years. She said it needs to be there that long to attract its potential audience.
"Branson is a little different because group tours want to plan ahead by about a year," she said.
After that, Doblin hopes to see a wide variety of displays showcased at the exhibition center.
Doblin previously was the vice president of operations and merchandising for Premier Exhibitions, whose exhibits included "Bodies: The Exhibition," that was in Branson three years ago.
